The Ultimate Crisis Alert System ?
Friday, December 2, 2005 at 16:58 Is the ultimate crisis alert system a blog + an RSS feed + Yahoo Alerts ?
Because that's what it looks like from here. Let's assume you have an internet connection and a PC; if you take on the role of crisis coordinator, you could, when needed, create a blog (for free), have an RSS feed for this blog (for free) and create specific SMS alerts for your feeds (for free) and then ask people in a danger zone or risk area to sign up for emergency alerts.
Now I would love to test this out because it is not the first time I write about such a set up and the possibilities (especially in areas where people are very into SMS and mobile phones like Europe and Asia) but Yahoo Alerts doesn't work on mobile phones outside the US !
I guess I'll have to wait, unless some of you would test it out..? If you do, please check the time between posting on your blog and receiving the SMS on your mobile (important in a crisis/emergency scenario). I tried Feedbeep before but the lead time was 20 minutes.
Thanks to Russell Beattie for pointing to Yahoo Alerts.
